Looking for a fresh approach to exploring England? Daytrips London does a masterful job of detailing 55 daytrips using that city as a base. This is one book you’ll want to take with you on your vacation!
Aimed at independent travelers seeking offbeat adventures along with classic destinations, this unusual guidebook first explores the metropolis on 10 one-day walking tours, then describes 45 daytrips to wonderful places throughout Southern England and beyond. All of the excursions can be made by either rail or private car.
Each one-day adventure is complete with a do-it-yourself walking tour, a detailed local map with clearly indicated attractions and routes, full travel directions, time & weather considerations, restaurant & pub suggestions, plenty of background information, and a concise description of all worthwhile sights. There’s also a large section devoted to getting around Southern England on your own, a Historical Perspectives section to place all those kings and battles in the proper context, a glossary of British terms, a menu translator, and a comprehensive index.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
EARL STEINBICKER is a born tourist who believes that travel should be a joy, not an endurance test. For over 40 years he has been refining his carefree style of daytripping while working in New York, London, Paris, and other cities; first as head of a firm specializing in promotional photography and later as a professional writer. Whether by public transportation or private car, he has thoroughly probed the most delightful aspects of countries around the world — while always returning to the comforts of city life at night. A strong desire to share these experiences has led him to develop the “Daytrips” series of guides, which he continues to expand and revise. Recently, he has been assisting other authors in developing additional “Daytrips” books, further expanding the series. He presently lives in the Philadelphia suburbs.
